Praying for the Spirit

by on August 10, 2010

This is a post from Nicole, one of our Team Members:

I am amazed how God convicts me of what I thought I already held so strongly. Does that happen to you?

Reading 1 Corinthians 2 recently, I was deeply persuaded of my need to pray for those who are lost. These words from Paul hold so much to delight in.  As Christians we have been given the Spirit of God and the mind of Christ. Incredible!  We have the Spirit that knows the deep things of God so that we might understand what God has given us. ‘God’s secret wisdom’, the message of Jesus, we can now see and speak of because the Spirit has revealed this truth to us.

So how does this persuade me to pray for those who are lost?  The words of verse 14:

The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.

God’s Spirit makes him known. The message of Jesus appears foolish in the world’s eyes but the Spirit makes sense of the workings of God. So as we seek to love and reach people in Canterbury, we must pray. As we desire to show them Jesus in our lives and actions we must pray. Asking our gracious Lord to pour his Spirit into the hearts of the people of Canterbury, so they will see clearly the things of God.
