Total Church in action
In our Sunday bible studies we’ve been reading and discussing the book Total Church by Chester and Timmis. It promotes a view of church as a community where, instead of church being one of many ‘balls’ people try to juggle in life, one of many ‘tasks’, instead the community stand together and help each other with their responsibilities. It gives an example of an older couple who come over to some young parents’ home every morning and bath the baby so mum and dad can have some together-time over breakfast.
Left me thinking, yes, but who would want to help us with something like that?
But then this morning, our neighbour turned up at the door with fresh bread rolls, came in and asked how could she help get the kids ready for school. She ended up making the lunches! As a result, we were less late than usual.
She’s not sure if she’s a Christian yet. But she’s teaching us the Total Church model…
