Our Women’s Ministry – and my puzzle

by on November 11, 2012

A lot has developed in the past year in our ministry among local women.

We’ve formed significant connections with well over 30 local women. We love this. It’s become a growing and vibrant women’s ministry.

And while it’s definitely been a team effort, no one has been more involved than Nicole, our part-time women’s worker.

Nicole has been able to make friends at the Playtime Cafe and elsewhere, follow them up with home visits, and (recently) lead some of them in a bible-study course. She has also helped to link these women in with the CCC church community.

And Nicole is leaving.

We haven’t so far managed to even hear of anyone who might be interested in coming to Canterbury and taking up some of that ministry for next year. We’ve been looking for a long time.

This troubles me. Why aren’t Christian women breaking down the door to come and get involved in this mission work? What about all those single graduates from the bible colleges? I mean, where else are they going to go where they’ll get easy access into the lives of a bunch of non-Christian women who are open to the gospel? As many opportunities as you like, just waiting to be taken up.

We actually now have local women asking for someone to read the bible with them, but we don’t have any woman able to do it. We’re so short on man-power (woman-power).

Surely there’s someone out there who’d be interested?

Maybe I’m missing something.

Or maybe we simply haven’t managed to get in touch with the right Christian women?

Does anyone know where they are?

Cause if we have to raise up and train up all our own people for ministry here locally, it’s going to be a long slog. Pity to have to do that in the middle of the world’s biggest evangelical diocese…

(A reader has advised me this post sounds too frustrated and lacking in faith. So apologies all round.)

    Hi Jonothan,
Just wondering if you have approached any of the bible colleges to chat with students or hold an info. meeting?? If so, then I too am shocked!
Will be praying. Looking forward to the updates!
    Stace 🙂

    • Hi Stacey,

We’ve tried the colleges at different times and in different ways, and we’re making more approaches to them again now. And to others in the Diocese who know the graduands for this year.

      It’s slow going!
